Recreation Ministry

Play Ball! Fore! Two Points! Are you interested in playing softball, getting a group together for golf once in awhile, or coming up to shoot a few baskets with some other folks? When two or more Christians gather, concerns and joys are shared, relationships are strengthened, and heart healthy activity happens. We are looking for TEAM leaders for all of the different sports who would meet periodically to coordinate publicity, scheduling, and planning for the 2008-2009. Our plan is to meet briefly on Sunday, May 18th at 1:30 in the Ministry Activity Center gym. If you want to be a team player and help make these things happen, contact Marilyn Wadkins in the church office or email her at mwadkins@cypress-umc.org.

Ministry Leader Meeting There will be a Ministry Leader meeting on Monday, May 19th at 7:00 p.m. We are going to discuss the qualities of a Servant-Leader. Don't be late or you'll miss the "theatrics".

Circle of Friends

Vacation Bible School Mark you calendar! VBS- Vacation Bible School will be held June 16-24, 2008. Our theme this year will be "Beach Party" . Surf's Up! Come "Hang Ten" at the beach, as we learn the Be-Attitudes from Jesus! Registration will begin on Sunday May 11.

To help our kids have a Surfin' Good Time, we are looking for props and decorating items. All donations will be returned. Contact Lisa Tiesman at ltiesman@sbcglobal.net. Suggested items are : large appliance boxes, Adiraondack chairs, Tiki torches, surf boards, beach chairs, colorful beach umbrellas, artificial palm trees, sand pails/shovels and beach towels.

Kid's Night Our Registration Children's Ministry will offer a Friday night children's event to give mom and dad a night off. It will be offered the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month. Cost is $10 per child with $30 family maximum. Register in the Wesley Lobby on Sunday mornings or in the church office during the week Our next night is May 16th.

Red Hat Society The Red Hatters of CUMC are on a shoe mission! We need your help in collecting NEW or SLIGHTLY used shoes of all kinds for all genders. Cypress Assistance Ministries are in need of shoes for the children to start back to school in the Fall. We want to get an early start on this need. Please help us collect a truck load of shoes for the children to return to school in clean fashion. We can use shoes for Men, Women, Youth, Children and Toddlers. They are also in need of dress shoes. The drop off box will be in the Wesley Lobby during the month of April. Our goal is to have a truck load by May 10 at our next Red Hatters Meeting. Alzheimer's Support Group

The Alzheimer's Support Group meets at CUMC on the fourth Thursday of each month from 7 - 8:30 p.m. in room W201. Family members and friends of a loved one with Alzheimer's or other dementia are invited to attend. Our next meeting will be on May 22 , 2008. For more information contact Marianne Johnson.

Operation: Coupons Support our overseas military families. Bring your coupons to the drop boxes located in the Wesley Lobby near the copy machine. Thank you for your donations of coupons. With your participation, a total of $4,529,500 in coupons has been sent to 36 bases around the world. Come clip with us the 1st Wednesday of the month in room W201.
Transportation Ministry

Our CUMC Bus use continues to grow. The number of trips, miles, and passengers doubling during the first three months of 2008. Not surprisingly, more volunteers are needed to meet this growth – especially “Sunday Bus” Attendants. All that’s involved are once-a-month, one hour bus rides before 9:30 services and after 11:00 services which include a lot of Christian fellowship and a little light lifting.

Please call the Transportation Ministry’s Doug Arosell if you – or rotating members of your CUMC organization – can spend a little time riding the Sunday Bus.
